Side effects of laser hair removal are not common in most patients although a number of people experience slight reddish marks on the area that has received the treatment. In normal circumstances this slight condition will disappear after a few minutes or a few hours. Occasionally it may take a few days for some patients to see the reddish marks disappear completely and this can even be sped up by using ice packs on the area that was treated. Skin returns to its normal look quicker after ice packs or anything else that is cold gets held against it for long periods.
There have been reports of side effects of laser hair removal in patients with a darker skin which is relevant to South Africa due to the multi cultural people and many different skin types we have here. There have been instances where lighter or darker patches of skin appear where treatment has occurred due to pigment changes. The good news however is that these changes are almost always temporary and only in a few extreme isolated cases have they been reported as permanent changes.
Scabs, burns and blisters have been reported after treatments on some dark skinned individuals as well but again these were mostly temporary and are extremelly rare occurences. On a whole the methods used by clinics and professional surgeons that carry out this kind of cosmetic surgery are very safe with no long term effects. There are many professional clinics in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria that are offering safe permanent solutions that have little or no side effects of laser hair removal procedures to be concerned about.
